WHERE DID YOU STUDY AND WHAT DID YOU STUDY
I studied Event Management at Bournemouth and loved the financial area of the studies. Some areas don't explain the industry very well which is why the placement is the best part. I found the modules on consumer behaviour so interesting. It was all about understanding consumer behaviour and how people respond to events.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO EVENTS?
My mum is quite creative. She's always making decorations and when we were young we did so many craft activities. I always liked the outcome and as I got older I realised there was the opportunity to be creative as a job.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT
I live on the outskirts of London. I like it because it's quiet but still close to London and not too far from to get anywhere.
IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE IN JUST THREE WORDS, WHAT YOU LOVE ABOUT EVENTS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
3 words. Ooooo hard. Each one is unique - no two events are ever the same Enjoyable - everything is different. You get to try different things all the time and have so much fun Creative
WE ARE ALL QUITE OBSESSED WITH EVENTS, AND WE’RE REAL STICKLERS WHEN IT COMES TO DETAIL - WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU COULDN’T WALK PAST ON SITE OR IN THE OFFICE?
We have these gold frames that client love to use to display menus or information such as social media handles. It takes so long to get the contents to line up perfectly. It takes ages every time!
IF YOU DIDN’T WORK IN EVENTS WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Before events I thought I wanted to get into advertising or online marketing. I think the creative side of that role and understanding how adverts work and impact consumer behaviour would be a really interesting job.
WE GET TO EXPERIENCE SOME AMAZING FOOD AND RESTAURANTS BEING IN THE EVENTS INDUSTRY, WHAT THREE RESTAURANTS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER TO SOMEONE COMING TO LONDON FOR THE FIRST TIME?
The Cereal Killer cafe for breakfast. It's very cool and quirky and serves mainly cereals! A very London concept!
Lunch - I'm going to opt for afternoon tea instead - somewhere like The Shard for a fancy afternoon tea.
Dinner - Gloria Big Mamma - A Shoreditch Italian. It has a great vibe and is very cool.
IT’S A HARD ONE – FAVOURITE VENUE?
Wow, that is hard. How can I choose! Camden House is great - it's industrial and urban. We did an event there which looked great.
CANAPÉS ARE LIKE LITTLE BITES OF HEAVEN – FAVOURITE CANAPÉ YOU’VE EVER HAD?
A salmon and cream cheese blini every time!
FAVOURITE CATERER IN THE INDUSTRY AND WHY?
Moving Venue. They do such a good range of styles and always do something different. everything also always looks really amazing, the presentation is brilliant.
IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE YOUR WORKING STYLE, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
I feel I write and re-write my to-do lists a lot through the day. I like to be organised and get things done.
WE ARE REALLY ADDICTED TO OVERINDULGING IN LEFTOVER PICK & MIX FROM EVENTS, WHAT’S YOUR GO TO SWEET?
I like the strawberries and cream jelly sweet.
TOP TIP FOR ANYONE WANTING TO GET INTO THE EVENTS INDUSTRY.
It's a hard industry to get into it. I'd say to make sure you're organised and can fit everything in. You need to make sure everything is perfect, it's a high pressure job.
I was looking for a job that was fast paced but not too mad with a focus on the detail. Events has all that so suits me well.
